A bunch of them were off the front pretty quickly after Carroll. I thought maybe 1 or 2 of the gals from my category were with that lead group. Then, the guys all came back as we were doing that tricky descent, and it was really hard to figure out what happened with the women. I caught up to 2 women and we rode together for a while and then they petered out on the second time up Altamont. At that point, it was about half way into the race and the rest of the race was like a time trial since I was alone; I rather like time trials anyway.

As the finish approached, I was a little surprised to see a gal with my number series. Not sure if she came from behind or I had caught up to her. I out sprinted her at the finish. She had thought I was with the 45+s so she said she didn't really go that hard. I still think I could have taken her.

It turned out that there had been one gal from the Wells Fargo team who stuck with that lead group and she handily took first. I think she broke 1 hour at Diablo last fall or took close to it, so it makes sense.

Janetanawimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08413647979691720488noreply@blogger.com
